Ready to work abroad
Answer these five questions. The closer you get to the maximum of 100 points, the more ready you are to work abroad.
Do you take advantage of opportunities that present themselves? What would you do if you were offered a scholarship to study in another country?
I would likely refuse. Changing academic environments might harm my grades.
I’d have to think about it. The combination of academic and personal changes seems like it would be a lot to handle.

Absolutely - I love learning new languages. What better way to learn quickly than to be completely immersed in a new environment?
Maybe, but only if I had support services in English and knew that other English-speaking international students would be there.
Sure, but I’d want to learn as much of the local language as possible before leaving and make sure I can communicate with school administrators either with a translation app on my smartphone or in another way.
No. I'm not good at learning other languages and wouldn’t want to risk my grades.
Are you able to adapt to the challenges of living and working abroad? How would you deal with a living situation where you had to deal with daily inconveniences, such as a lack of privacy, limited access to clean water, bugs, etc.?
I would stay, but I’d use whatever tools possible to make my stay more comfortable.
I would be realistic and adapt – if there was no discomfort and challenge, it wouldn't be the adventure I am ready to have!
It would be really difficult for me. I’d probably want to go home – I like my creature comforts!
I would have to figure out what I could manage and what I would have to adjust to, so I could minimize the inconvenience.

I’m generally receptive to new ideas and experiences. I’ll give most things a try.

Are you a person who adapts quickly and easily to new situations? How do you feel if you’re traveling for more than a week?
After a week, things would just be getting interesting! I'd be learning local customs, eating local dishes and getting to know my surroundings.
I start missing my home and my routine. I still go out, but it would be hard to engage with the culture.
I get homesick. I lose interest in things when I miss my friends and family. I start planning to go home to my home country directly.
I’d try to go out and experience new things. It might take me a while to work up the courage to adapt, but I’d try to do it.
